I’ve had a few runner-up meals for the big heart day but here is this year’s winner.
Beef Wellington Bites.
My love of red meat and puff pastry is well known so of course a special occassion to me would be the combination of both.
These are quick, can be made in advance or are just as nice right on the spot.
I started with 1 lb. of stewing beef and marinated it with 1/2 cup red wine, 2 crushed cloves of garlic and 1/2 cup of dried mushrooms (I used porcinis).
You can let this sit overnight or for as little as 30 minutes.
Flash fry the beef to brown in a very hot pan.
Roll out one package of puff pastry to 2 1/2 ft X 1 1/2 feet.
Layer; mushroom slice, beef, dried mushroom.
Cut into squares.
Press and fold into bundles.

Bake for 15 minutes (or until browned and puffed) in a 350 degree oven.
Cool before eating, a burnt mouth does not say romance (insert “Hot Lips” from ‘Mash’ joke here if you are of a certain age)
Try to take a picture with the help of a toddler who envisions herself as a food stylist.
Move pieces of food around.
Take said pieces of food and eat.  This is not really romance for me.
Ok, quick!  She’s distracted for a second.
Have a wonderful heart day :0)
