Anyone else super excited about the “Hunger Games” movie?
I love those books and in fact have found that every reluctant reader that I’ve had read the first book in this series has gone onto read the rest and then I’ve got them-they are readers from then on.
I read these books when they first came out in 2008 and was hooked immediately.
The only hard part was waiting for the next installment to come out.
If you haven’t read them yet, run and do so.
You don’t even have to wait for the next book as the trilogy is satisfyingly complete.

Here’s my version of Gale and Katniss’ breakfast at the beginning of the first book just before the Reaping.
“Gale spread the bread slices with the soft goat cheese, carefully placing a basil leaf on each while I strip the bushes of their berries. We settle back in a nook in the rocks. From this place, we are invisible but have a clear view of the valley, which is teeming with summer life…” (pg 9)
“The food’s wonderful, wit the cheese seeping into the warm bread and the berries bursting in our mouths.” (pg. 9)

Serve with blackberries and goat cheese and remember… |
We went to the midnight showing IN COSTUME and also had a lovely feast before the games. I made a Nutella filled angel food cupcake with blood berries. http://www.addhousewife.com/2012/03/may-odds-be-ever-in-your-favor.html We were hoping for goat cheese, but we couldn't find it 😦
That is so funny – I was just thinking about this meal last night. I was pondering the role of food in the books that my 5 year old loves best, like the Boxcar Children and the Little House books, and thinking about how that is part of the appeal of those books in particular. And then I re-read the Hunger Games and thinking about how wonderfully she writes about food throughout the book (and this meal in particular). Great idea!!
You are *AWESOME*. I already loved you to death, but now I can safely say we are pretty much sister separated at birth (c: LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hunger Games…I was devastated when I didn't get to go to the midnight showing )c: But you can bet I'll be seeing it in the next week and I am *BEYOND* excited! Seriously, the food descriptions are some of the best parts of the books!
