Anyone else super excited about the “Hunger Games” movie?
I love those books and in fact have found that every reluctant reader that I’ve had read the first book in this series has gone onto read the rest and then I’ve got them-they are readers from then on.

I read these books when they first came out in 2008 and was hooked immediately.
The only hard part was waiting for the next installment to come out.
If you haven’t read them yet, run and do so.
You don’t even have to wait for the next book as the trilogy is satisfyingly complete.

Here’s my version of Gale and Katniss’ breakfast at the beginning of the first book just before the Reaping.”Gale spread the bread slices with the soft goat cheese, carefully placing a basil leaf on each while I strip the bushes of their berries.  We settle back in a nook in the rocks.  From this place, we are invisible but have a clear view of the valley, which is teeming  with summer life…” (pg 9)

I made a really simple loaf of bread using: 2 cups of warm water and 2 tsp. each of sugar and yeast.  When that was bubbling I added 1 cup of milk, a pinch of salt and 7 cups of flour.  I used straight white flour as this is meant to represent the special bakery bread that is described in the book.  Knead your dough for 2-3 minutes and let rest for 30 minutes. Punch down, form into a loaf and place in a greased pan.  Let rise another 30 minutes and score the top.  Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

“The food’s wonderful, wit the cheese seeping into the warm bread and the berries bursting in our mouths.” (pg. 9)

Serve with blackberries and goat cheese and remember…
